Why subscribe?
The Alexander Technique is a wonderful tool for improving your overall health, unlocking your full creative potential, and a window into that great question ‘Who am I?’. While I love my books on the Alexander Technique, I have found that most of them are written for teachers or for people that have long and quiet attention spans. As a free subscriber to Living the Alexander Technique, you will have an opportunity to get an idea of what the Alexander Technique is at a general level and how it can benefit you.
What Topics Will You Cover?
If you subscribe, you’ll get a weekly letter from me going over various aspects of the technique. You’ll learn about what our upright poise is, how we can better organise ourselves to have more poise, and how thought and patience can be cultivated to ease tension and give you new choices in life.
If you want an overview of all of the stuff and things, I encourage you to check out the Table of Contents.
What Benefits Will I Get?
If you’re a student of mine, you’ll have a reminder of the things we talk about during private lessons. Learning to take your time is a humbling and constant experience for me and it’s very tempting to put the result of the technique before the process of the technique. Reading might help you keep the horse in front of the cart.
If you’re not a student of mine, fear not! There is no harm in reading about the technique and trying lie-downs out on your own! Many people find benefits just by taking time on their own to play with the ideas that I’ll write about.
Hey Man, What Is the Alexander Technique?!?
It is nearly impossible to describe this technique in writing. The technique gives you a way to develop your sense of feeling so that you have a particular quality of thought, weight, presence, and movement. You’ll need videos, examples from master performers, and very likely a personal lesson (or 1000 in my case…) to know what FM Alexander discovered for himself.
If you really want to know, I encourage you to book a lesson with a qualified teacher of this technique. A qualified teacher is one who can present these concepts in a way that resonates with you; where everything seems possible and attainable with patience, metaphor, and mentation. As in any course of study, you’ll want to take the time to find a teacher that resonates with you!
