I'm concerned A LOT about "putting" my head anywhere. That sounds like an instruction To Do Something in a fixed way! My preference is to invite my skull [a more specific naming of what a "head" is] to balance upon vertebra #1 [more simple than the anatomical term but equally accurate]. And then hinging forward from the thigh socket [more accurate than "hip" socket---most people think of "hip" as either the greater trochanter or some place around their glutes] while the skull continues its Balancing Act upon vertebra #1. This conversation's been fun. Thx

You're quite right! I am telling you to put your head in a fixed way! It's what FM describes doing in the Evolution of the Technique as part of his journey to realizing that you should instead allow the head to be forward and up.

My hope with this post is to alleviate the confusion people have with the term "Up" and the term "Tilt Up" or "Pitch Up".

If you check out today's post, you'll hopefully see I use a bit more anatomical terminology. I try to dial the wording up and down based on the level of the post. I would not disagree with anything that you've written! :) Thanks for writing!

Just for further clarity, you'll see that I'm very much stressing that these are examples of doing the wrong thing. Doing the wrong thing is totally fine if you know that's what you've set out to do! I wrote a post about how to practice doing the wrong thing to gain more knowledge of how to prevent the wrong thing.

I'll likely do a future post soon where I go over the portion of evolution of the technique that I'm diving into here. FM uses the phrase 'put the head...', so I want everyone to see exactly what that looks like! :)

Yup! The tilting of the head up is quite different than the head up (forward and up being the thing we like the most)
